About Kitchen Conversions

Kitchen Conversions is a free measurement calculator and reference site for people who cook, bake and follow recipes written in someone else's units.

About our kitchen conversion calculator

Cooking and baking move between measurement systems all the time. A recipe is written in cups, your scale reads grams, and the oven is set in the other temperature scale. The calculator on our home page handles those jumps in both directions: volume (gallons down to milliliters), weight, length, temperature and speed. It accepts fractions such as 1 3/8 and gives inch results as fractions to the nearest 1/16.

How the numbers are made

The calculator runs entirely in your browser. Every conversion factor comes from a standard definition: the US customary gallon (3.785 liters), the international avoirdupois pound (453.59 grams), and the exact inch (25.4 mm). The reference tables on the guide pages are worked out from those same factors and rounded for reading. Ingredient weights, such as the grams in a cup of flour, are typical values that vary with how an ingredient is packed, and the guides say so wherever it applies.

How the site is funded

The site is free to use. It is supported by advertising and by Amazon affiliate links on the kitchen tools page, which earn a commission on qualifying purchases at no extra cost to you. Recommendations are chosen for how well they help with measuring, not for payout.
